Palms Off Gaming Blackout Deck Sleeves — Japanese Mini Size
A$14.95 — Pre-order
Yu-Gi-Oh! cards are smaller than a Pokémon or Magic card, and a standard sleeve lets them slide around and catch on the shuffle. These Blackout Deck Sleeves are cut to Japanese mini size instead. You get the same fully opaque back as the standard Blackout range in a sleeve that actually holds a 59 × 86 mm card, in fourteen colours so each deck can have its own.
Why collectors pick this one
- Japanese mini size, cut for Yu-Gi-Oh! cards
- Fully opaque back hides sleeve wear
- Standard (non-matte) finish
- Pairs with Mint Fit Japanese inner sleeves
- 14 colours
Choosing the right one
Two decisions. **Size** — standard sleeves fit Pokémon, Magic, One Piece, Lorcana and sports cards; Japanese mini sleeves fit Yu-Gi-Oh, which is noticeably smaller. Japanese-language Pokémon cards are standard size, so they take standard sleeves. **Finish** — gloss shuffles faster and shows colour more vividly, matte reduces glare and grips slightly, which most players prefer for long sessions.
About the Blackout Deck Sleeves — Japanese Mini Size
A properly sized sleeve does three jobs for a small card. It keeps the card centred so the edges are not the first thing to hit the table, it keeps the deck square so it shuffles without catching, and it keeps the stack slim enough to fit a standard deck box. A standard-size sleeve on a Yu-Gi-Oh! card fails at all three. The opaque back covers the card back completely, so marked or worn sleeves cannot be picked out, which is what tournament judges look for.
One point catches people out: Japanese-language Pokémon cards are standard size, not mini. If you play Japanese Pokémon or One Piece, buy the standard-size Blackout sleeve (BODS-ST). The mini size is for Yu-Gi-Oh! and other games printed at the smaller Japanese card size.
This is the standard-finish version. Players who want less glare and a little more grip should look at the matte Japanese mini sleeve (BODS-JPN-M). For a sealed, double-sleeved deck, put each card in a Japanese-size Mint Fit inner sleeve first, then into this. Store sleeved decks flat or upright in a closed box, out of direct sun, so the colours stay even across the whole deck.

Common questions
What is the difference between standard and Japanese mini size?
Japanese mini (often called Yu-Gi-Oh size) is cut for 59 × 86 mm cards, smaller than the 63 × 88 mm standard, so those cards need their own sleeve size. Yu-Gi-Oh is mini size. Pokémon (English and Japanese), Magic, One Piece, Lorcana and sports cards are standard.
Should I choose matte or gloss?
Matte reduces glare and has slightly more grip, which most players prefer for long sessions and for photographing cards. Gloss shuffles faster and shows colour more vividly. Neither protects better than the other.
What is an over sleeve for?
Double-sleeving. The card goes in an inner sleeve first, then the whole thing goes into an over sleeve. The card is then sealed on all sides and the inner sleeve takes no handling at all — standard practice for anything valuable that still sees play.
