This is the matte cut of Palms Off Gaming's Blackout Deck Sleeves in standard size. The opaque back is the same as the regular Blackout sleeve, but the finish is matte, so overhead lights do not bounce off the card face and the sleeves have a touch more grip in the hand. It is the version to choose for long tournament days, streamed matches or any deck you plan to photograph.

Why collectors pick this one

Choosing the right one

Two decisions. **Size** — standard sleeves fit Pokémon, Magic, One Piece, Lorcana and sports cards; Japanese mini sleeves fit Yu-Gi-Oh, which is noticeably smaller. Japanese-language Pokémon cards are standard size, so they take standard sleeves. **Finish** — gloss shuffles faster and shows colour more vividly, matte reduces glare and grips slightly, which most players prefer for long sessions.

About the Blackout Deck Sleeves — Standard Size, Matte

Glare is a practical problem, not a cosmetic one. Under fluorescent store lighting a glossy sleeve can wash out the text on a card across the table, and in photos it puts a white streak through the artwork. A matte surface spreads that light out, so card names, attack costs and set symbols stay readable from a seated distance. Many players also find matte sleeves easier to fan out and separate when drawing.

The sleeve is cut for standard-size cards: English and Japanese Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece, Lorcana, Dragon Ball and most sports cards. It works on its own as a single sleeve, or as the outer layer over a Mint Fit inner sleeve for a sealed double-sleeve. The opaque back means a scuffed sleeve cannot be singled out from behind, which keeps a deck tournament-legal for longer.

Pick this over the standard Blackout sleeve (BODS-ST) if glare or grip has ever bothered you; pick the standard one if you prefer a slicker feel. Yu-Gi-Oh! players need the Japanese mini size. Fourteen colours let you keep one colour per deck, which makes it easy to sort a stack of sleeved cards back where they belong after a night of testing.

Common questions

What is the difference between standard and Japanese mini size?

Japanese mini (often called Yu-Gi-Oh size) is cut for 59 × 86 mm cards, smaller than the 63 × 88 mm standard, so those cards need their own sleeve size. Yu-Gi-Oh is mini size. Pokémon (English and Japanese), Magic, One Piece, Lorcana and sports cards are standard.

Should I choose matte or gloss?

Matte reduces glare and has slightly more grip, which most players prefer for long sessions and for photographing cards. Gloss shuffles faster and shows colour more vividly. Neither protects better than the other.

What is an over sleeve for?

Double-sleeving. The card goes in an inner sleeve first, then the whole thing goes into an over sleeve. The card is then sealed on all sides and the inner sleeve takes no handling at all — standard practice for anything valuable that still sees play.
