Choosing the right one
Two decisions. **Size** — standard sleeves fit Pokémon, Magic, One Piece, Lorcana and sports cards; Japanese mini sleeves fit Yu-Gi-Oh, which is noticeably smaller. Japanese-language Pokémon cards are standard size, so they take standard sleeves. **Finish** — gloss shuffles faster and shows colour more vividly, matte reduces glare and grips slightly, which most players prefer for long sessions.
About the Premium Over Sleeves — Standard, Clear
Double-sleeving exists because the outer sleeve is the part that wears. Edges whiten, corners split and surfaces scuff after months of play, but the inner sleeve and the card underneath stay untouched. When the outer layer looks tired you replace it, not the card. For a valuable Pokémon or Magic card that still sees play, that is cheap insurance against edge and surface wear that would knock down its grade or resale value.
A clear over sleeve is also the standard way to protect art sleeves. A printed or opaque inner sleeve can slip inside a clear over sleeve so its artwork does not rub off on playmats. Load the inner sleeve upside down so its opening faces the bottom of the outer sleeve, and the card is closed on every edge. Common questions
What is the difference between standard and Japanese mini size?
Japanese mini (often called Yu-Gi-Oh size) is cut for 59 × 86 mm cards, smaller than the 63 × 88 mm standard, so those cards need their own sleeve size. Yu-Gi-Oh is mini size. Pokémon (English and Japanese), Magic, One Piece, Lorcana and sports cards are standard.
Should I choose matte or gloss?
Matte reduces glare and has slightly more grip, which most players prefer for long sessions and for photographing cards. Gloss shuffles faster and shows colour more vividly. Neither protects better than the other.
What is an over sleeve for?
