Collecting Mickey Mantle
The 1952 Topps #311 is the hobby's most famous card but not his first; the 1951 Bowman #253 is the true rookie. Every Topps and Bowman Mantle from the 1950s is collected, and condition drives value far more than for modern cards, so a graded example from PSA or SGC is the norm. Reprints and counterfeits of the 1952 Topps are widespread; treat any raw copy with caution.
